Expert Public Lecture with Dr. Ir. Budi Setiawan, MS

In order to increase students’ understanding in the field of research methods, Tuesday, September 25th, 2018, The Department of Nutrition Sciences, Faculty of Health Sciences held a Public Lecture of Experts. Activities that is designed to improve the academic atmosphere through sharing and discussion with experts in their fields which are expected to foster the spirit of learning and gaining knowledge of students. Titled “Validity and Reliability of Measurement in Nutrition Research”, Dr. Ir. Budi Setiawan, MS. became the speaker in this activity where he is an expert in agricultural industry technology, community nutrition science and human nutrition as well as a lecturer in the Department of Public Nutrition FEMA-IPB.

In the activities attended by students of semester 1 to 6, Dr. Ir. Budi Setiawan, MS emphasized the importance of defining and measuring variables, especially related to the validity and reliability of a research variable. This is very important for a nutrition scholar where one of the competencies that must be possessed is to be able to conduct research such as conducting experiments on food product development, organoleptic tests, nutrition surveys, clinical trials to lower the risk of disease, functional food development and others. During the expert lecture, Dr. Ir. Budi Setiawan, MS, as General Secretary of the Association of Indonesian Nutrition Higher Education Institutions also informs to the students about the importance of competency exams as well as registration certificate for a nutritionist.

Located in the Auditorium of Mohammad Djazman, the activity moderated by Dyah Intan P, M.S was responded enthusiastically by students at the question and answer session.  This activity was closed at 14.00 WIB by completing 3 sessions of discussion forum. The head of Nutrition Science, Mrs. Endang Nur Widiyaningsih, M.Si, Med, hopes that this activity can be continued sustainably in presenting nutrition experts in their fields for 2 to 3 times a year.
